Introducing You and Me Both with Hillary Clinton

Hillary’s personal faith has been a guiding force throughout her life. In this episode, she is joined by journalist Krista Tippett, social justice activist Reverend William Barber II, and comedian Aasif Mandvi to explore how faith has shaped their public and private lives, and how it can help heal our nation in these difficult times.

Reverend William Barber II is a MacArthur Genius grant-winning minister, author, and activist who organized the Moral Mondays movement in North Carolina and is now Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign. He is also the longtime pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church in Goldsboro, North Carolina. His new book is We Are Called To Be A Movement and is a sermon about how we can all make the change we need.

Krista Tippett is a journalist, author, and host of the Peabody Award-winning weekly national public radio show, On Being, which explores “what it means to be human, and how we want to live.” 

Aasif Mandvi is an actor and comedian who has made us laugh as a political correspondent on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and as the writer and star of the Peabody Award-winning web series Halal in the Family. He currently stars in the CBS show Evil.

Voting is hugely important – especially right now. In this episode, Hillary is joined by musician John Legend and voting rights advocate Stacey Abrams to discuss the ongoing struggle to expand voting rights, and their thoughts as America approaches a hugely consequential election. Hillary also reflects on the legacies of her heroes and friends Congressman John Lewis and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

John Legend is an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award-winning musician and the founder of Free America, a criminal justice reform advocacy organization. He recently helped launch “Free The Vote,” a fundraising campaign to pay the fines and fees preventing ex-felons in Florida from casting their ballot. He released his newest album, Bigger Love, in June. 

Stacey Abrams was the 2018 Democratic nominee for Governor of Georgia and previously served as the minority leader in the Georgia House of Representatives. As the founder of Fair Fight and Fair Count, she has been a major force in the push to advance voting rights and ensure fair elections. Her new book is Our Time is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America.

With each of these gutsy women, she asks what -- or who -- made them think they could make a difference, and how they overcame the obstacles they faced along the way. 

Gloria Steinem is a feminist journalist and activist, best known as a pioneer of the women’s rights movement in the 1970s. She began her career in 1962 with groundbreaking pieces about contraception and about her experience going undercover as a Playboy Bunny. Later, she founded Ms. Magazine and was a major figure in the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment. Her memoir, My Life on the Road, was recently turned into a film called The Glorias starring Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander.

Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha is a pediatrician and public health advocate who in 2014 helped expose toxic levels of lead in the water in Flint, Michigan. Her book, What the Eyes Don’t See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City, recounts her experience of the crisis.

Gutsy Women (with Gloria Steinem and Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha)

2020 has been a challenging year by any measure. In this episode, comedian Sarah Cooper ( famous for her lip-sync parodies of President Trump); Grit author Angela Duckworth; and long distance swimmer Diana Nyad share with Hillary their stories of summoning strength, motivation, and humor in the face of obstacles.

Sarah Cooper is a standup comedian and author of How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings and 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings. Her Netflix comedy special “Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine” comes out on October 27.

Angela Duckworth is a research psychologist and author. Her 2016 book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance was a #1 New York Times bestseller.

Diana Nyad is a long-distance swimmer who in 2013, at age 64, succeeded on her fifth attempt to swim over one hundred miles from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage — the first person to have done so. Nearly all of us have experienced grief this year – whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the loss of normalcy. In this episode, Hillary talks with stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt and Sybrina Fulton, advocate and mother of Trayvon Martin, about finding purpose after a terrible loss. 

Patton Oswalt is an award-winning stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. After the tragic death of his wife Michelle McNamara, he finished the book she was working on: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: The Search for the Golden State Killer. The book was recently turned into an HBO documentary series of the same name. His newest stand-up special, I Love Everything, is out on Netflix.

Sybrina Fulton is an advocate and the mother of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in 2012. Along with Trayvon’s father, Tracy Martin, Sybrina co-founded The Trayvon Martin Foundation to empower families who have lost children to gun violence. Sybrina recently campaigned for a seat on the Miami-Dade County Commission, ultimately losing by less than one percent.

In this episode, Hillary is joined by “Queer Eye” star, author, and newly minted U.S. citizen Tan France; community advocate Lorella Praeli; and economist Raj Chetty to talk about what the American Dream means to them personally and whether it’s still attainable. Of course, Tan also provides expert feedback on Hillary’s presidential campaign wardrobe.

Tan France is a fashion designer and television personality who grew up in the United Kingdom, the son of South Asian immigrants. He is best known for his role as one of the Fab Five on Netflix’s “Queer Eye.” His memoir, Naturally Tan, was published in 2019.

Lorella Praeli was born in Peru and grew up undocumented in Connecticut. She’s now the co-president of Community Change, an advocacy group that works on behalf of low-income Americans.

Raj Chetty is a MacArthur “Genius” grant-winning economist who has received wide acclaim for his research on equality and opportunity in America. He is the director of Harvard’s Opportunity Insights lab.

The American Dream (with Tan France, Lorella Praeli, and Raj Chetty)

How are people who've worked their hearts out in this election feeling as we head into the final hours? In this episode, Hillary finds out with her special co-host, actor and advocate America Ferrera. They ask seven guests how they’re spending the day, how they’re trying (and maybe failing) to keep calm, and most importantly, why they’re making sure to vote. They speak with 17-year-old poll worker and student activist Mallory Rogers, first-time voter Justin Blackman, actor Kal Penn, organizer Emily Ruiz, candidate Brandon Thomas, political analyst Zerlina Maxwell, and bestselling author Glennon Doyle. 

America Ferrera is a producer, director, award-winning actor, and political activist. She has long worked to increase Latinx voter turnout as a spokesperson for Voto Latino and launched She Se Puede with a coalition of Latina activists in September 2020.

Mallory Rogers is a 17-year-old student activist and senior at Rome High School in Rome, Georgia. Mallory is serving as a poll worker this election.

Justin Blackman is an 18-year-old based in North Carolina who is voting for the first time in a presidential election. When he was 16, he garnered national attention for tweeting a video of himself after realizing he was the only student at his school to participate in the 2018 national school walkout against gun violence.

Kal Penn is an actor, comedian, and activist. He’s known for his roles in the cult-classic comedy trilogy Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, and on the TV show House. He’s also been involved in politics as President Obama’s former Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs. Kal recently encouraged people to get out and vote through the Freeform show Kal Penn Approves This Message. 

Emmy Ruiz is a community organizer and political consultant who first got involved in politics as a field organizer in Nevada for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign. She is currently a partner at NEWCO Strategies, a strategic political consulting firm with offices in Austin, Texas, and Washington, DC. 

Brandon Thomas is a candidate for the seat representing District 49 in the Tennessee State House of Representatives. If elected, he will be the first openly gay member of the Tennessee General Assembly and the first Black representative for his county.

Zerlina Maxwell is a political analyst, writer, TV host, and activist who served as the director of progressive media for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. She wrote The End of White Politics: How to Heal Our Liberal Divide, and serves as the host of the new Peacock series, Zerlina, and the radio show, Signal Boost, for SiriusXM. 

Glennon Doyle is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Untamed, which has sold over one million copies. She is also the author of Love Warrior and Carry On, Warrior. Glennon is the founder and president of Together Rising, an all-women led nonprofit organization that has revolutionized grassroots philanthropy. She lives in Florida with her wife, World Cup soccer champion Abby Wambach, and three children.

Soledad O’Brien is an award-winning documentarian, journalist, author, and philanthropist, who founded Soledad O’Brien Productions, a multi-platform media production company dedicated to telling empowering and authentic stories on a range of social issues. She anchors and produces the Hearst TV program “Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien” and is a correspondent for HBO Real Sports.

She is an “Eat” columnist at The New York Times Magazine. She also co-hosts the podcast Home Cooking, in which she and Hrishikesh Hirway answer questions about how to cook during a global pandemic.

 José Andrés is a bestselling author, educator, humanitarian, chef, and owner of ThinkFoodGroup, a collective of nearly thirty restaurants. He is also the founder of World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit specializing in delivering food relief in the wake of natural and humanitarian disasters including the coronavirus pandemic. 

Rocco DeFazio is the owner of DeFazio’s Imports and DeFazio’s Wood Fired Pizzeria in Troy, New York.
