Abigail Shrier returns to talk about her latest book Bad Therapy: Why The Kids Aren't Growing Up. She and Bridget discuss what led her to write the book, her initial premise, how it changed along the way, why kids today seem to be in a lot of psychological pain, the potential harms of too much therapy, the overuse of the word trauma, how talking about and focusing on your pain can make it worse, and how kids are being taught to make their pain an organizing principle of their lives. They cover how our blanket culture of therapy can feed on parents' insecurities and how they really need to take back their authority, what kids today are really anxious about, how being a parent means you have to do things that are uncomfortable but that are good for your kids, why a certain amount of repression is healthy, how important independence and risk taking is for children's development, over-medication and how numbing a kid to the ups and downs of life has a lot of consequences, why you should research your therapist the way you would a surgeon, and what you can do as a parent to counteract these issues.

Original Air Date - 9/21/23 Paula Scanlan, former University of Pennsylvania swimmer and team member with transgender athlete Lia Thomas, sits down with Bridget to discuss her experience on the team, her decision to speak up about the controversial issue, and ultimately testifying before Congress. She and Bridget talk about how the university tried to silence the athletes, being unable to express discomfort or feelings of unfairness, being told that they are the ones with the problem, waiting for the adults in the room to step in, and making the difficult decision to speak up even when she knew the backlash she'd face would be brutal. They cover the pressure of group think, why all of this coming on the heels of Covid made it so much worse, teaching young women not to trust themselves, why this issue should not be a political one, the worry of being fired for her viewpoints, hearing from a lot of young women who are scared, how Paula's sexual assault red pilled her, and her work to enact policy change with the Independent Women's Forum.

E324. Should America be a Monarchy? - Curtis Yarvin

In some sense the United States was an innovation, a bold experiment that turned into a spectacular success. According to Bret Weinstein, this success is proof of concept, and the system devised has been wildly successful at producing well-being, though unfairly distributed to certain population groups. The solution is not to un-invent the system, it’s to figure out how to correct the unfairness. The system needs an adjustment. Bret believes that Unity 2020 is our way to break the corrupt duopoly holding this country in gridlock and sowing division between Democrats and Republicans. A biologist and evolutionary theorist, Bret’s background is in studying complex systems and the evolution of humans in particular. He outlines his innovative and bold plan to galvanize disaffected voters, force both parties to meet in the middle and affect a lasting change in the way this country is governed. Will it work in 2020? Is there time? If not, what can we hope for in the future?
