Tolkien's Tragedy: The New Dark Lord (The Second Millennium)

In the latest episode of our epic, chapter-by-chapter Silmarillion journey, we explore "Akallabíth", the legend of Númenor's rise and fall. With Morgoth having been defeated in the War of Wrath, the Men allied with the Elves of Beleriand are rewarded with an earthly paradise: the Island of Númenor. Yet over the course of a 3300 year history, the Númenoreans tragically discover that the soul of Man desires things that the natural world cannot provide.
