Micah Hanks

The Micah Hanks Program is a weekly podcast that covers science and the mysteries of our universe. Taking a critically-minded approach to the study of our world, each week Micah presents commentary and discussions with guests on subjects that include mysteries of physics and astronomy, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), UFOs, myths and folklore, archaeology and ancient mysteries, artificial intelligence, futurism, cryptozoology, science fiction, and entertainment. Each week we journey to the boundaries of human knowledge, in search of the most unusual things our world has to offer.

The Micah Hanks Program

For decades, sightings of unusual, spherical objects have been reported in our skies. Often described as metallic silver, translucent, or illuminated in fiery orange or red, flying objects matching this description were even reported by Allied pilots over Europe during WWII as a possible new advanced weapon developed by Nazi Germany. Today, the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office continues to collect reports about these mysterious "orbs," which constitute the single largest category of UAP reports it collects.
 
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we look at striking examples of sightings and close encounters involving spherical UAP, also often referred to as "orbs," as well as official investigations by the U.S. government into these objects and their anomalous behavior.

Invasion of the Orbs: Spherical UAP in Our Skies | MHP 08.18.26.

It began on a summer night in 2011, when someone in the vehicle noticed three odd lights overhead. Curious, one of the occupants stepped out of the vehicle and looked up. Now, according to a witness interview released years later by the U.S. Department of War, what appeared above them was not simply three lights, but a massive, dark, triangular object moving silently across the night sky. This case, and several others involving mysterious triangle UAPs in our skies, are among those included in the Pentagon's fifth tranche of UAP files released under its PURSUE initiative. 
 
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we look at the latest U.S. government UAP cases revealed with the recent publication of PURSUE Release 05, and how one very unusual and increasingly prominent class of unidentified flying objects—massive black triangle UAP—have become a central focus for investigations by the Pentagon's AARO and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Triangle UAP: The Pentagon's 'PURSUE' Release 05 | MHP 08.11.26.

Since the dawn of the new millennium, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) have gradually evolved from a fringe subject into a legitimate national security issue. Key developments that include the 2000 Illinois police triangle sighting, reporting on classified "black" military programs and the Pentagon's "shadow military," and other events illustrate how intelligence agencies and defense analysts increasingly viewed unexplained aerial reports not as curiosities, but as potential intelligence problems worthy of systematic investigation.
 
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we look at how UAP-related developments in the 21st century have shaped the study of unexplained aerospace phenomena. These include the investigations by Robert Bigelow's NIDS, the DIA's AAWSAP, and subsequent UAP investigations like the Pentagon's AARO, their pursuit of answers to recurring reports involving triangle-shaped craft and glowing orbs, and what they mean in terms of secrecy, intelligence, and the investigation of UAP.

Anatomy of an Enigma: Black Projects, Hidden Aircraft, and UFO Encounters | MHP 08.04.26.

Last week, the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) released its Fiscal Year 2025 Consolidated Annual Report on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, revealing its latest findings involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). Among its key findings, AARO's report conveys that the Office continues to collect data on hundreds of objects it cannot yet identify and states that some sightings over sensitive military facilities could represent an "unmitigated threat vector" to U.S. national security.
 
This week on The Micah Hanks Program, in addition to an analysis of AARO's latest findings, we also recap the recent 2026 Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU) event held in Toronto, Canada. Finally, we examine recent conspiracy theories related to the topic and explore why some unfounded speculations persist despite the uncertainty inherent in UAP studies.

The AARO Files: The 2025 Annual UAP Report, Official Responses, and Conspiracies | MHP 07.29.26.

In recent days, a historic Congressional hearing was held before the House Intelligence Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee. The topic of interest: unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and the Pentagon's Airborne Object Identification Management and Synchronization Group (AOIMSG).
 
"UAPs are unexplained. It's true, but they are real," said Representative Andre Carson during the recent House Panel hearing. "They need to be investigated and many threats they pose need to be mitigated." Featuring testimony from Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security Ronald S. Moultrie and Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence Scott W. Bray, the hearings have become one of the most talked-about developments in the recent debate over UAP, as well as the broader history of the UFO phenomenon. This week, we take a look at the hearings, and the wide range of responses to them on The Micah Hanks Program.

The Congressional Hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena | MHP 05.23.22.

In 2004, a high-profile UFO incident involving the USS Nimitz occurred off the California coast. It now represents one of the most widely recognized cases of its kind in the modern debate over unidentified aerial phenomena... but now we know it was not the only military UFO encounter to have occurred that year.
 
Returning to the program this week is filmmaker Dave Beaty, whose reporting for The Debrief recently brought to light another U.S. Navy encounter that occurred in 2004, involving the USS Ronald Reagan. We discuss Beaty's investigations into the UAP incident, and his interviews with firsthand witnesses, this week on The Micah Hanks Program.

Pursuing the Phenomenon: Dialogues on the State of Ufology | MHP 05.09.22.

During the 1980s, several members of the UFO research community were targeted as part of one or more disinformation campaigns that aimed to plant false information. Ranging from stories of UFO crashes and cattle mutilations, to underground bases at places like Dulce, New Mexico, and even an ongoing war with hostile extraterrestrials, several ideas were successfully presented to UFO researchers which have continued to proliferate through ufology into the present day. 
 
Joining us to discuss UFO disinformation and its influence over the decades is Adam Gorightly, author of the book Saucers, Spooks and Kooks: UFO Disinformation in the Age of Aquarius. Gorightly gives us a powerful overview of the ufological scene in the 80s and 90s, and reveals the origins of the infamous "Dulce Base" mythos this week on The Micah Hanks Program.

UFO Disinformation: Spies, Saucers, and Counterintelligence | MHP 05.02.22.

In the summer of 1947, news broke that a crashed flying saucer had been recovered by the U.S. Air Force on a remote ranch in New Mexico. Then, just one day later, the story was withdrawn, and the object was said to have merely been a weather balloon. Decades later the story would resurface, giving rise to one of the greatest controversies in the history of UFOs: the Roswell Incident. 
 
Joining us this week is Walter Bosley, a researcher whose father also recalled stories similar to the infamous Roswell Incident. Bosley shares his own investigations into his late father's memories, as well as speculations about early aerospace developments that might help to shed light on the modern UFO mystery in this installment of The Micah Hanks Program.
