The Daily T

In Monday’s episode of The Daily T, live from the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley react to Chancellor John Healey’s speech to delegates.

They analyse his pledge that businesses – rather than the Government – will fuel Britain’s growth, and his promise to stop the welfare bill from soaring further. Before next month’s Budget, the Chancellor vowed a “new age of industrialisation” and declared that Britain “will hope again” under Andy Burnham’s leadership.

Camilla and Tim also discuss the Chancellor’s nostalgic references to past Labour governments – as well as his anecdotes about a miner’s lamp on his desk and wearing a red tie signed by Gordon Brown, the former prime minister and chancellor, to deliver his speech.

In today’s special Daily T episode, live from Liverpool ahead of the Labour Party Conference, Camilla Tominey goes head-to-head with Bridget Phillipson, the party chairman and former education secretary. They debate the Government’s education policy, including issues from school uniform policies to VAT on private schools, as well as Ms Phillipson’s views on women’s access to single-sex spaces. The women and equalities minister also doubles down on her response to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public comments that Britain is “on the slide”. Camilla also asks her whether she was disappointed to be replaced as education secretary by Lucy Powell, and whether she’s ever kissed a Tory.

The Sunday Showdown: Camilla Tominey and Bridget Phillipson go head-to-head

In Sunday’s bonus episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley speak to Andrew Morton, the unofficial biographer of Diana, Princess of Wales. Morton believes the Palace should not have issued a statement in reaction to Earl Spencer’s memoir on his late sister’s life and death, and says that royal staff who were present at the time of the earl’s conversation with the King in the aftermath of Diana’s death should speak out to confirm what happened. Morton also reflects on his past conversations with Diana, and recalls her own words on her mental health, upbringing and relationship with Charles before she died.

In Wednesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley are joined by Tony Diver, The Telegraph’s Political Editor. Fresh from his trip to the UN General Assembly in New York, Tony discusses asking Donald Trump, the US president, about the Chagos Islands deal – leading to an embarrassing climbdown from the Prime Minister.

They discussed Andy Burnham looking nervous, and suggested he was “totally unprepared” and “possibly underqualified” for the world stage.

Plus, Piers Morgan discusses Earl Spencer’s inaccuracies and subsequent apology. The Uncensored host believes that Diana, Princess of Wales’s brother is “out to damage him” with the claims in his new book.

Asked whether he would be willing to negotiate if the Earl was to offer a donation to the King’s Trust in lieu of pulping the first edition of his book, Piers responded: “Everything’s negotiable.”
