The late Queen’s mistake that William and Kate will not repeat

On Wednesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley discuss the hot mic blunder in which Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, and Wes Streeting, the Defence Secretary, were caught on camera joking about early prison releases.

The timing of the incident could not have been worse for Andy Burnham, the new Prime Minister, on day three of his premiership. Anger over the Cabinet members’ poorly placed joke also came within hours of The Telegraph’s report that two of Pc Andrew Harper’s killers were amongst the criminals set to be freed under Labour’s plans to tackle prison overcrowding.

As the new PM vows to review the early prisoner release policy, Camilla and Tim examine the fundamental flaws in Labour’s approach to justice.

They also discuss how Mr Burnham’s regime can better handle communications crises with Guto Harri, Downing Street’s former head of communications under Boris Johnson.

On Tuesday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla and Tim dissect Andy Burnham’s new Cabinet. Dubbing it a “desperate game of musical chairs”, they break down a reshuffled front bench which looks oddly familiar to the last one. They analyse the significance of John Healey’s appointment as Chancellor, the return of Angela Rayner and the reaction to Wes Streeting’s appointment as Defence Secretary.

Elsewhere, Camilla and Tim have an impromptu discussion with comedy legend Griff Rhys Jones about Burnham’s Cabinet reset, the current political climate and Network Rail’s planned redevelopment of Liverpool Street Station in London – to which Jones strongly objects.

Same faces, same failures: Burnham’s reshuffle solves nothing

On Monday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla and Tim are in Downing Street to react to Andy Burnham’s inaugural speech as Prime Minister, as Sir Keir Starmer’s departs from No.10 and hands the keys over to his successor.

As Starmer bids an emotional goodbye after two years at the helm of government, Burnham addresses the nation (sans-lectern) as the UK’s fifth prime minister in four years as he pledges a “circuit breaker” for Britain.
