Your child's brain is already losing connections. Not because something's wrong. Because of pruning. The brain cuts whatever isn't being used.
Dr. Baland Jalal says the window is real, and what you do in it matters.
Affection first. Hugging and physical touch trigger oxytocin and neuropeptides that directly support neuroplasticity. It's not soft parenting. It's brain science.
Then real stimulation. Not screens. Screens wire dopamine addiction loops. The stimulation that builds the brain is social. Learning to read faces, pick up on emotional cues, engage with other humans. Dr. Jalal admits COVID isolation left him socially handicapped. His mirror neurons went quiet.
And finally: let them run. Cardiovascular exercise produces BDNF, what he calls "fertilizer for the brain," which grows new synapses.
The last one is easy to miss: convey passion. Kids catch it from the adults around them.
