Edith Eger doesn't believe in "overcoming" trauma. She calls hers a cherished wound. Something she learned, as she puts it, in the classroom of Auschwitz.

She tells the story of two Vietnam veterans. Same injuries. Same diagnosis. Same prognosis. One was curled in a fetal position, asking why. The other told her he was grateful to be in a wheelchair because he could reach his children closer.

Same body. Entirely different life. The only difference was meaning.

What hit hardest: Edith had her degree, her white coat, her patients, and still felt like an imposter. She hadn't done her own work. So she went back to Auschwitz. Alone. Her sister said she was an idiot.

She calls it reliving so you can revise. Not going back. A new beginning.
