Hugo Fry is a 2:17 marathoner, a 63-minute half marathon runner, a sub-30 10K runner, a desert ultra winner, and somehow, none of that is the most interesting thing about him.
Tommy sits down with Hugo in London for a wide-ranging conversation about what it actually looks like to build an audience as a runner, why racing more often is probably the best content strategy, and how Hugo manages to be genuinely elite without ever taking himself too seriously.
They get into the backyard ultra world, Hugo's chaotic race calendar, and why structure might be the real secret to performing at a high level. Hugo's perspective on running is refreshing in the best way. He trains hard, races hard, and doesn't wrap his identity in the numbers. In a space full of people shouting about their splits, that's rarer than it should be.
