Stadio: A Football Podcast

So here it is, our final show of the year and the least anticipated annual awards around: it’s the Stadios 2025!

Musa and Ryan announce the winners of the Existential Moment of the year (03:03), the Big Mood of the year (07:44) and—for the first time in a few years— the Ballon d’Rip returns! 

Then it’s onto the Goal of the year (14:49), Angry Goal of the year, under it’s new alias: the ‘Powskas’ award (23:52), plus prizes for Team (29:47), Coach (33:37) and Player of the year (41:14), before getting onto the main event of the ceremony: the 2025 Catfish of the year award (48:32).

The Stadios 2025

AFCON kicked off in Rabat, as Morocco opened with a 2-0 over Comoros in a game that featured an incredible overhead from Ayoub El Kaabi.

Musa and Ryan begin there, before chatting about Kylian Mbappé, who equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid record for goals in a calendar year (05:28), as well as how impressive his time at the Bernabéu has been, despite getting off to a tricky start. 

Next up, it’s Leeds’ turn to get the props (18:32), after another great result, this time to Crystal Palace, that sees a great run from Daniel Farke’s side continue. There’s chat about the rest of the Premier League, including Aston Villa’s win over Manchester United (24:07), wins for the top two, Liverpool’s win at Spurs (33:37) and much more!

AFCON is go! Mbappé equals Ronaldo’s record, plus praise for Leeds and Aston Villa!

A little later than usual, but recorded just before the wild Manchester United v Bournemouth game (sorry!), Musa and Ryan quickly round-up some big results from the weekend around Europe (03:24), including the Premier League, Real Madrid getting back to winning ways, St. Pauli getting their first Bundesliga since September and much more. 

Then it’s onto the trip from this weekend (17:11), where they visited Venezia for their win over Monza and then San Siro for Milan’s draw against Sassuolo. It was the first time that Musa and Ryan had visited both the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo and San Siro, so they chat about the uniqueness of both, the contrasting surroundings and how overwhelming it can be to visit an iconic stadium for the first time.

Proper Calcio Weather

There’s some important admin up top about the upcoming Christmas episodes, a Patreon offer and news on our next show at the Southbank Centre!

Musa and Ryan then chat about Mo Salah’s mixed zone comments that followed Liverpool’s 3-3 draw away at Leeds which look like starting the process of him potentially leaving the club (09:07) and is the latest situation in an already very difficult season. 

The Salah situation mean that there isn’t as much chat about the game itself, but there is also praise for Leeds (26:22), as well as Aston Villa’s late win over Arsenal at Villa Park and a quick round-up of some other Premier League games.

There’s also time to shout out some other results from the weekend (36:07), including Hearts' win at Celtic, the MLS Cup, Arab Cup, the WSL, Serie A and La Liga, before some thoughts on the World Cup draw (42:14), which took place on Friday.

The Salah situation, some World Cup draw thoughts, big admin and more!

There’s a lot to get through today, but Musa and Ryan begin with shouting out Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores win before moving on to the Premier League.

They discuss the scrappy 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Arsenal (06:52), which probably worked out as a good point for both sides in the end, plus wins for Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and all the rest of the Premier League games (18:50). 

Elsewhere, the tops of Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 are very close, so there’s chat about some key results from those leagues (42:04) and a quick shout for the Bundesliga, MLS and more!

Chelsea, Arsenal and all the smoke at Stamford Bridge

After a men’s international break that delivered some wonderfully joyful moments, the Eberechi Eze hat-trick for Arsenal, in his first North London derby, was up there. 

Musa and Ryan chat about Eze’s historic feat, during his childhood club’s 4-1 win over Spurs at the Emirates Stadium, which sent the Gunners six points clear.

They then move on to the rest of the Premier League (22:54), including Chelsea moving up to second, Newcastle’s win over Manchester City and—while there’s a lot of chat about the Liverpool side of it—Nottingham Forest winning back to back games at Anfield for the first time in 62 years (29:02). 

Elsewhere, Milan won the Derby della Madonnina to go second behind Roma (41:17), Barcelona were back at Camp Nou and closed the gap after Real Madrid dropped more points (46:56) and there’s some chat about the Bundesliga and more (50:27).

Eze’s historic hat-trick sends Arsenal six points clear

Wow. Just wow. Troy Parrott takes the headlines once again!

Musa and Ryan chat about his amazing hat-trick in Budapest to take Ireland to the playoffs for the 2026 World Cup, ahead of Hungary. They also chat about DR Congo’s penalty shootout win, which saw them qualify and means Nigeria will miss the tournament once more.

Then, it’s onto England’s perfect qualifying campaign (16:04), plus a discussion about the weird discourse that continues to surround Jude Bellingham (21:22), a defence for a player that should be celebrated and reasons why an England qualifying campaign isn’t allowed to be routine and calm.

Parrott does it again, and in defence of Bellingham

It was a rollercoaster weekend in the Premier League, with many clubs being thrown from joy one minute to despair the next.

Musa and Ryan focus on Manchester City’s 3-0 over Liverpool (03:30), which saw another goal for Erling Haaland and arguably Jeremy Doku’s best performance in a City shirt so far. For Liverpool, it was another day to forget and there’s yet more to ponder for Arne Slot during this men's international break. 

Sunderland did what no side has done this season, by scoring two against Arsenal at the Stadium of Light (21:38), there was late drama at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and more great wins for Villa, West Ham, Brentford and Everton. There's also chat about Pep Guardiola, after he reached 1000 games as a manager this weekend.

There were some fun results this weekend, so Musa and Ryan begin with a quick recap of some games around Europe (02:00), including more goals and red cards in Germany, Arsenal extending their lead at the top of the Premier and League and a wonder goal from Piotr Zieliński in Inter’s win at Verona (16:42).

They then chat about Haaland’s evolution and the difference between good players and great ones. Finally, with four points separating the top six in Serie A, there’s a discussion about which is the most intriguing of the top five European men’s leagues at the moment (36:35).
