Stadio: A Football Podcast

There were some fun results this weekend, so Musa and Ryan begin with a quick recap of some games around Europe (02:00), including more goals and red cards in Germany, Arsenal extending their lead at the top of the Premier and League and a wonder goal from Piotr Zieliński in Inter’s win at Verona (16:42).

They then chat about Haaland’s evolution and the difference between good players and great ones. Finally, with four points separating the top six in Serie A, there’s a discussion about which is the most intriguing of the top five European men’s leagues at the moment (36:35).

Clip - Celtic, Juventus and when victory defeats you

Goals, red cards and spiritual onsides! Musa and Ryan begin with Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona at the Bernabéu, in the first Clásico of the season (02:00) and Xabi Alonso’s first as a manager. It opened up a five point gap at the top of La Liga, as Villarreal closed the gap on Barça in third.

It was a wild Premier League weekend too (26:03), as Bournemouth went second, Sunderland went fourth, Liverpool lost again, Villa continued their good run and Arsenal increased their lead at the top. Finally, there’s a quick shout out for the top of Serie A (41:39), although this was recorded before the news that Juventus had sacked Igor Tudor, so that’ll have to wait for Wednesday’s show and, finally, a quick shout for the Bundesliga.

Arsenal dominate Atlético Madrid in the Champions League

Manchester United have won at Anfield! Musa and Ryan recap Ruben Amorim winning back to back games league games for the first time since his arrival at Old Trafford, thanks to an early Bryan Mbuemo goal and a late Harry Maguire winner. They also wrap up the rest of the Premier League, before chatting about Ange Postecoglou being sacked as Nottingham Forest manager (23:53), Bayern beating Dortmund (28:40) and a few other results from the weekend.

England qualify for the 2026 World Cup!

A little later than usual, Musa and Ryan chat about some results from the weekend (03:59), including some WSL, Frauen Bundesliga and more. They then move onto some of the men’s World Cup qualifiers, beginning with Erling Haaland reaching 50 international goals in 46 games for Norway (07:58) and his inevitability as a striker. There’s also chat about how the expanded World Cup has had some positives, seeing sides like Cape Verde qualify for the first time (18:58), before wrapping up on a discussion about how important the qualifying campaigns of teams like England, Germany and Spain are when predicting their tournament form (24:34).

Erling Haaland's half century and the differing expectations around World Cup qualification

Musa and Ryan run through the Premier League midweek games (Aston Villa’s Champions League qualification will be saved for tomorrow’s 'Wrighty’s House'!). They begin with Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford (02:25), Chelsea's victory over Brighton to climb into sixth (11:32) and Manchester City’s win at Spurs, which resulted in an existential Ange (16:25). They then move on to Juventus’s Coppa Italia win (36:37), before wrapping up on a bit of chat about how FIFA is open to overseas domestic matches and the vote put forward by Wolves to scrap VAR in the Premier League.
