Stadio: A Football Podcast

As we head into the extended men’s international break, many teams will be welcoming it, while some will be wishing there were more club games this week.

It’s hard to know which is the case for Atlético and Real Madrid, as Musa and Ryan discuss another home win for Diego Simeone’s side and another impressive Madrid derby (04:45). José Mourinho brought a print out to the press conference and for a second it felt like the first time he was in charge, attempting to distract from a less than stellar performance from his side. 

They then move onto Serie A, including a brilliant top of the table clash between Roma and Inter (30:38). There’s also Premier League chat, with impressive results and performances from Brighton and Brentford, who inflicted 3-0 defeats on Arsenal and Chelsea respectively. Plus, there’s Ligue 1, Bundesliga and more!

Atleti win the Madrid derby, Roma v Inter, the Premier League and more!

A nice quiet weekend in the Premier League then?

Before getting into the noise of the Manchester Derby, Musa and Ryan take a minute or two to chat about Hull City’s impressive start to the season (03:10), which continued with an impressive 2-2 draw away at Chelsea. There’s also praise for Ipswich Town, who have also impressed, this time with a late win at Crystal Palace.

Then it’s onto the derby (12:12) , which saw Manchester City come away from Old Trafford 1-0 winners. The game was largely affected by two big calls: the Phil Foden red and the Erling Haaland goal. Manchester United have already received an apology for the latter, but the failure to respond to the former arguably played as much of a role in their defeat.

There’s also chat about Arsenal’s win away at Sunderland (29:50) to maintain their 100% start, plus some other results (37:00) around the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, WSL and more.

Spiritually Offside in the Manchester Derby

With the European seasons well underway, it was a weekend where many contenders suffered dropped points or upsets.

Musa and Ryan begin with a quick dart around some of these games, including Real Madrid’s defeat to Betis, Atleti losing at Athletic Club, Bayern dropping points and PSG’s winless start continuing. 

They then turn to Arsenal and Chelsea, who played out a hugely entertaining headline fixture at the Emirates, which the Gunners came through victorious (11:13). After analysing the game itself, some changes to Mikel Arteta’s side this season and the way they’ve evolved, they then move on to some chat about Chelsea (28:13). Despite the defeat, they were plenty of things for Xabi Alonso, as well as Chelsea fans, to feel encouraged about, especially missing a key part of their midfield in Moisés Caicedo.

There’s a big shout out for Hull City (40:44), who continued their unbeaten start, and some other results, including Everton’s late equaliser against Manchester United and more late drama in Serie A.

Arsenal, Chelsea and the need for getting up to speed

It’s not even September and yet, some seasons have not got off to the start that fans wished.

After multiple places to begin and a bit of chat about more Jude Bellingham brilliance, Musa and Ryan then move on to what has been a difficult start for Spurs and another home defeat, this time to Newcastle United (08:34). They examine quite how much time Roberto de Zerbi will be given, considering the big spending summer, which raised expectations massively.

There’s also some chat about Manchester United’s win over Ipswich (27:22), Liverpool (39:00), plus the Bundesliga’s return, a stuttering start for PSG and much, much more.

It’s too early for a crisis right… right?

The Premier League is back and so are Musa and Ryan, who chat about the first games of the new season, which showed signs of a new dynamic emerging in England’s top flight. 

Arsenal got off to a routine start, whereas Manchester United, Aston Villa, Spurs and more suffered very disappointing opening weekend defeats. Hull, Ipswich, Brighton and Brentford had the headline wins, so there’s chat about whether teams will take advantage of the post World Cup variables and how important it is for clubs not to fall behind.

There are also shoutouts for some results in Spain, Italy, France, Germany and… the J-League!

Is this the start of a new look Premier League?

We’re now back on the free feed and into the regular season schedule!

Musa and Ryan begin with a quick shout out for Cameroon winning their first Women’s AFCON, defeating Malawi 3-0 in Rabat (03:08).

They then move onto Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield (06:26) and discuss what the takeaways were for both Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca and if this tells us anything about this year’s Premier League.

Speaking of which, they then go through the league club by club (23:55), making their ‘no lower than’ position predictions for this season, and chat a bit about Paul Pogba to finish.

We're so back! Community Shield takeaways, Premier League look ahead and more!

Spain’s men won their second World Cup, beating Argentina 1-0 after extra-time. Musa and Ryan chat about Spain’s brilliant performance in the final and the tournament as a whole, how the best team won and some more takeaways from the final.

We’ll be doing some more zoomed out thoughts about the World Cup and the final on our next show for members. Argentina are once again into the World Cup final, after two late goals secured an epic turn around and a 2-1 win over England.

The round of 16 games are underway and delivering!

Musa and Ryan chat about England’s 3-2 against Mexico at the Azteca (02.50) which saw weather delays, penalties and a red card, but ultimately, two Jude Bellingham goals and a Harry Kane penalty rewarding Thomas Tuchel’s side with a place in the quarter-finals.

Norway await England, following their 2-1 win against Brazil and another two goals for Erling Haaland (26:48). There’s also chat about Morocco’s win over Canada and France getting past Paraguay (40:45), plus some thoughts on Folarin Balogun’s red card ban being suspended, meaning he will play against Belgium.
