LISTEN | Morning Prayer - August 23, 2022 | Memorial of St. Rose of Lima, Virgin
"Lord, increase my sufferings, and with them increase your love in my heart." - St. Rose of Lima
Isabela de Oliva, nicknamed "Rosa" because of her beauty, was born in Lima, in Peru. She lived a life of selflessness and devotion from an early age. She refused to marry, and became a Dominican tertiary at the age of 20. Her asceticism and her intense spiritual experiences excited the criticism of her friends and family and the suspicion of the Church authorities.
St. Rose was first declared saint of the New World in 1672; a patroness of South America, especially Peru, and later proclaimed as Secondary Patroness of the Philippines by Pope Pius XII.
St. Rose of Lima, pray for us!
