LISTEN | Morning Prayer - May 14, 2022 | Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle and Martyr
"This is my commandment: Love one another as I love you, says the Lord, alleluia." - John 15:12
Today is the Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle and Martyr. After the Ascension of Jesus, St. Peter proposed to the assembled faithful that they choose a disciple of Christ to fill the place of the traitor Judas in the first missionary band. Lots were drawn, with the result in favor of Matthias. According to one ancient tradition, this missioner labored in Ethiopia and was martyred there. Thus did St. Matthias receive "the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him."
Let us ask St. Matthias to intercede for us to God especially as we labor to do God's most loving will each day.
Join the whole Church in praising God at the beginning of the day with the ancient tradition of Lauds. Full-text to Saturday's Morning Prayer is available at ibreviary.com
