Today, we also celebrate the memorial of St. Bernardine of Siena, who was born in 1380 in Carrara, Italy. He led a hermit's life at an early age and entered the Franciscan Order at 22 years old. After resigning as General of the Order, he devoted himself to preaching the name of Jesus with such love that it wrought the transformation of many souls. He was instrumental in effecting many conversions. He died at Aquilea, in the midst of his missionary labors, on May 20, 1444, and was canonized six years later.
