Mary Edwards Walker, the daughter of a New York farmer who became a doctor during the Civil War, is the only woman to have received a Medal of Honor. Her story includes many ties to Ohio, including her first attempt to begin a medical practice in Columbus, and how Col. Daniel McCook of Ohio's famous "Fighting McCooks" became the first officer willing to pay her for her services after hiring her to tend to his Ohio Infantry casualties.

They would eventually move to Hollywood to establish their Warner Bros. Studio, but Youngstown is where it all started.

OM Backroads Ep:61. The Historic Haunted Buxton Inn

In the fall of 1984, the east side of Cleveland and its eastern suburbs were rocked by four chillingly-similar murders - all 14-year-old girls, strangled to death while going about their daily routine. But this was not the work of a serial killer. In time, police would catch and convict three killers in three cases, leaving one still-open homicide. The family of Leslie Cross, murdered on her way to deliver a birthday present and left in the hall of a Bedford Heights apartment building, is still waiting for justice.

Ep 298 - Leslie Cross: And then there was one

Episode Notes: In 1990, Lisa Pruett was a popular 16-year-old Shaker Heights High School student who snuck out of her house one late September evening to go visit her boyfriend. She was found in the early morning hours in his neighbor's lawn, stabbed to death before she'd made it to his house. Police would focus on a fellow student, Kevin Young, even bringing him to trial in a nationally televised Court TV case. But a jury found Kevin not guilty, leaving Lisa's murder one of northern Ohio's most frustrating cold cases. www.ohiomysteries.com
