The Week: Sandwiches, Planning and the EU

Migration, Migration, Migration

Today, we look at the naming of the alleged Chinese spy with links to Prince Andrew.

Sources have told the BBC that Prince Andrew will not be at Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Family for Christmas this year after the alleged spy was named as businessman Yang Tengbo. Mr Yang has responded in a statement saying it was “entirely untrue” that he was a spy.

Prince Andrew previously said in a statement that he had "ceased all contact" with the Chinese businessman, with all meetings having been "through official channels" and "nothing of a sensitive nature ever discussed".

Adam speaks to BBC Home and Legal Correspondent Dominic Casciani and Charles Parton, former UK diplomat to China and RUSI associate fellow.

And, the government has set out its plan for devolution. Joe Pike tells Adam about Angela Rayner’s plans for more mayors and abolishing district councils.

The Chinese "Spy" is Named

Today, Russia and the US hold peace talks in Saudi Arabia, but a noticeable absentee was any representative of Ukraine. 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergi Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have agreed to appoint teams to start negotiating the end of the war in Ukraine after talks in Saudi Arabia. Speaking after, Lavrov said his country wouldn’t accept peacekeeping forces from Nato countries in Ukraine. 

Are relations between Russia and the US thawing? And are we on the brink of a deal? We speak to the BBC world affairs editor, John Simpson.

And, President Trump has said he wants access to Ukraine’s rare minerals. But what exactly are they? We speak to Dr Julie Klinger, author of Rare Earth Frontiers: From Terrestrial Subsoils to Lunar Landscapes.
