I think we all do. Or at least most of us. It’s hard to avoid with the social media environment these days.

The problem with comparison creates a sense of lack. You see what someone else has, and you think, “I don’t have that.” Which creates feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, and resentment.

So what do we do about it? How do we train our minds to stay out of the comparison spiral so we can see our lives, and ourselves, for what they really are?

That’s what we’re talking about today. Our guest is Nona Jones. She is an international speaker, preacher, author, and the head of global faith-based partnerships at Facebook. She’s also the author of “Killing Comparison”.

Rejecting the Lie That You Aren’t Good Enough by Killing Comparison with Nona Jones • 269

Imagine you're trying to untangle a complex knot. You could just pull at random strings, hoping to make progress. Or you could study the pattern of the knot first, understanding exactly how it's twisted and turned, making the untangling process much more intentional and effective.

That's what these frameworks can do when we use them wisely. Instead of using them to build our identity, we can use them to understand our attachments, our default patterns, and the stories we've been telling ourselves. They become mirrors showing us where we might be stuck, where we tend to grasp too tightly, and where we might need to pay extra attention in our personal growth work.

This revelation hit me particularly hard when I started diving deep into the Enneagram system. Unlike other personality frameworks I'd encountered, this one seemed less interested in putting me in a box and more focused on showing me the box I'd already put myself in – and more importantly, how to think outside of it.

Today our guest is Stephanie Hayes, an Enneagram expert who brings a fresh perspective to this ancient system of understanding human behavior. She's written "Enneagram in Real Life" and specializes in helping people use the Enneagram as a practical tool for growth rather than just another label to collect.

Turns out, most of us are operating from scripts written by people who never lived in our bodies. Religious purity culture tells us desire is dangerous. Hook-up culture treats sex like a sport. What if I told you your brain is literally shrinking right now?

I’ve been into brain hacks since I was a kid. I believed “mind over matter” was more than a saying—it was a strategy. And I swear I used it to outgrow asthma.

I have this core memory in 8th grade. We were running the mile in P.E., and I started feeling that tightness in my chest, like I couldn’t get a full breath in. My P.E. teacher looked freaked out, holding out my inhaler like “take it.”

But I didn’t. I just slowed down, took the deepest breaths I could, and kept repeating something in my head like “my lungs are healing.”

That’s the last time I really remember having an asthma attack. Maybe something small came up later, but nothing that stuck. After that, I became a cross country runner.

That moment changed the way I thought about what the mind can do. It made me wonder how much of what we accept as “just the way we are” could actually change.

We do live in an over-diagnosed society, but at the same time, the world we live in breeds distraction.

I have a history of ADD, and after growing tired of being anchored to a legal methamphetamine, I decided to take it on holistically.

My diet, my habits, my self beliefs, my intention, and, maybe most importantly, getting really clear about my why have made more of a difference that medication ever did.

 So today we’re going to be having a discussion on ADD and how to cope, you know just two adult ADD kids figuring shit out.

Our guest is Eli Weinstein. He’s a Social Work therapist who has gone through his own struggles with anxiety, ADHD, and men’s issues (being a new dad, body image issues, relationships, and general self-esteem/confidence) and he has firsthand experience leading children through this journey.

Are you judgmental? Be honest. Because frankly, I’m pretty sure we all are. Some more than others.

The problem is, our judgments don’t just create suffering for other people. Our judgments create the most suffering within ourselves, whether we’re judging ourselves or our own past harshly, or we’re holding people and the world around us to standards they will never meet.

It’s our resistance to "what is" that creates our suffering. Always. There will still be pain, but suffering is a choice.

And I know, easier said than done. So how do we get there, exactly?

That’s what we’re talking about today. Our guest is Greg Hammer, MD. He is a Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, a pediatric intensive care physician, a pediatric anesthesiologist, a mindfulness expert, and the author of GAIN without Pain. He is also a health enthusiast and meditator, utilizing a non-duality and mindfulness-based approach to care.

And for me, learning what traps I might fall into when trying to find the truth, gives me compassion for others. And if we start to see our own blind spots, we might stop being so eager to point the finger.

So today, we’re learning how to think better so we can reason better and ultimately live better.

Our guest is Woo-Kyoung Ahn. She is the John Hay Whitney Professor of Psychology at Yale University. Her research on thinking biases has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, and she is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.
