Did you know that 11% of school aged kids and 19% of high school age boys have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD?

It hasn’t alway been this way, in fact the numbers nearly doubled from the late nineties to the late 2000s.

We do live in an over-diagnosed society, but at the same time, the world we live in breeds distraction.

I have a history of ADD, and after growing tired of being anchored to a legal methamphetamine, I decided to take it on holistically.

My diet, my habits, my self beliefs, my intention, and, maybe most importantly, getting really clear about my why have made more of a difference that medication ever did.

 So today we’re going to be having a discussion on ADD and how to cope, you know just two adult ADD kids figuring shit out.

Our guest is Eli Weinstein. He’s a Social Work therapist who has gone through his own struggles with anxiety, ADHD, and men’s issues (being a new dad, body image issues, relationships, and general self-esteem/confidence) and he has firsthand experience leading children through this journey.

Working through ADD and ADHD • X09

We will learn:

 • What judgments prevent us from seeing.

 • How to move from judgment to acceptance in the moment.

 • A daily practice to rewire our brains to judge less overall.

Are you judgmental? Be honest. Because frankly, I’m pretty sure we all are. Some more than others.

The problem is, our judgments don’t just create suffering for other people. Our judgments create the most suffering within ourselves, whether we’re judging ourselves or our own past harshly, or we’re holding people and the world around us to standards they will never meet.

It’s our resistance to "what is" that creates our suffering. Always. There will still be pain, but suffering is a choice.

And I know, easier said than done. So how do we get there, exactly?

That’s what we’re talking about today. Our guest is Greg Hammer, MD. He is a Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, a pediatric intensive care physician, a pediatric anesthesiologist, a mindfulness expert, and the author of GAIN without Pain. He is also a health enthusiast and meditator, utilizing a non-duality and mindfulness-based approach to care.

Achieving Non-Judgement in 3-Minutes a Day with Dr. Greg Hammer • 256

 • Why others don’t always get what’s obvious to us.

 • The 8 most common biases and fallacies that keep our minds closed.

When we have a strong opinion, we often look down on the people who don’t reach the same conclusion, whether they have the same facts as we do or not.

The biggest problem I see with us being stuck in our beliefs and becoming more and more intolerant of those who are different is, obviously, division, but more specifically, we’re losing sight of how beautiful a spectrum is.

And for me, learning what traps I might fall into when trying to find the truth, gives me compassion for others. And if we start to see our own blind spots, we might stop being so eager to point the finger.

So today, we’re learning how to think better so we can reason better and ultimately live better.

Our guest is Woo-Kyoung Ahn. She is the John Hay Whitney Professor of Psychology at Yale University. Her research on thinking biases has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, and she is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.

Turns out, our brains have their own aging process. Kind of like our skin. We’ve all seen people who look 40 when they’re 70 or they look 70 when they’re 40.

So basically, age really is just a number when it comes to the whole. But the aging of our individual parts can make a huge impact on what’s possible for us.

But here’s the good news. There are actually a ton of things you can do to greatly decrease your risk of mental aging: dementia, Alzheimer's, mental illness, all of it.

That’s what we’re talking about today.

Our guest is Dr. Marc Milstein. He specializes in taking the leading scientific research on health and happiness and using it to empower people to live better. He provides science-based solutions to keep the brain healthy, lower the risk of dementia, boost productivity and maximize longevity. His book "The Age-Proof Brain" was just published on October 25th.
