E216: Expanding Your Frame of Reference

You are not the limited thoughts, emotions, or sensory experiences you are aware of; you are the consciousness that is aware of them. Spiritual growth involves ceasing to focus that consciousness on the personal self, and welcoming life’s experiences as opportunities for growth. Through letting go at deeper and deeper levels, consciousness can turn away from distraction, become one-pointed, and ultimately follow awareness back to its source, where the limited sense of self gives way to the experience of divine oneness.

E215: The Source of Consciousness

Every moment of existence is an extraordinary miracle, but you filter that miracle through the likes, dislikes, fears, and expectations developed through your past experiences. By resisting what you don’t like and clinging to what you do, you build a personal self that judges the present and struggles to make the outside world conform to your preferences. The spiritual path is to stop resisting reality, release what you have stored inside, and allow every experience to pass through you until consciousness is free to experience life with peace, openness, and equanimity.

E214: Letting Go of Yourself and Seeing the Miracle of Life

God is not to be seen as merely a personal wish-fulfilling entity but the universal consciousness and creative force that exists as everything in creation, including ourselves. Few people understand the source of will power. Will is the inner power created by the focusing of consciousness, and the way we use it determines whether we become trapped in ego or awakened spiritually. The highest expression of will is to consciously relax, allow life to pass through without resistance, and ultimately surrender personal will to the divine will.

Suffering arises when consciousness becomes distracted by experiences, identifies with them, and forms the personal mind filled with preferences, fears, and attachments. Spiritual growth comes not from stopping thoughts but from developing witness consciousness and learning to allow life’s experiences to pass through without resistance or clinging. The practical spiritual path is to continually practice “I can handle it,” while relaxing and releasing our reactions until we rediscover ourselves as awareness itself, rather than the collection of experiences we have accumulated.

All living beings share the same divine consciousness, but the sophistication of the human body, mind, and heart allows us to expand our consciousness into very broad frames of reference. True spiritual evolution comes through letting go of these psychological distractions and allowing consciousness to return to its natural state of unlimited expansion—Enlightenment.
