HW Impact: ₹1 Lakh Compensation To Woman Who Gave Birth On Road During Lockdown After HW story

A pregnant woman who gave birth on the road during the first wave of covid-19 and walked almost 150 kilometers has been awarded a sum of 1 Lakh as compensation after her ordeal reached the ears of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Taking note of HW News' report on the plight of the woman, the NHRC wrote to Maharashtra govt and sought response from them. In the letter, it had said, “A woman along with her husband, Migrant labour during the countrywide lockdown in May 2020 due to Coronavirus, while walking from Maharashtra to her village in Madhya Pradesh and gave birth to a baby on the way and after resting for some hours, resumed her walk for the remaining 150 km”.
