One of its last items of business: confirming President Trump's nominee for Attorney General, Todd Blanche, who squeaked through by one vote despite concerns about the administration’s weaponization of the Justice Department. We talk with the Republican who put him over the top, Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy.

Plus, following another progressive-over-establishment upset in the Michigan Senate primary, will the Democratic party unite behind the outliers? And how will those further left candidates fare against Republicans in the fall?

This week on ‘Face the Nation,’ Iran apparently blinks after threats from President Trump for a major joint US and Israel attack on Iranian soil. Heading into a sixth month of conflict with Iran, President Trump told reporters Friday he had plans to go full throttle on his threat for military action in Iran.
His vows for "going big" caused a flurry of diplomatic scrambling, and yet another announcement of "perimeters of a deal." We’ll discuss the latest with Sen. Mark Kelly and Ohio Congressman Mike Turner.
Plus, after an alarming incident of Open AI going rogue and hacking into at least one company's computer system, we'll talk to the CEO of Hugging Face, Clem Delangue.

This week on Face the Nation, as the U.S. war with Iran approaches the 5 month mark, both sides are searching for a diplomatic off-ramp.
After nearly two weeks of striking targets across Iran following the collapse of the short-lived ceasefire earlier this month, the Trump administration paused its bombardment for two straight days for the first time, as diplomatic talks over the Strait of Hormuz show signs of progress.
With our new CBS poll showing continuing unease about the war's direction, we ask U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz whether a peace deal is any closer.
Then, with midterm elections around the corner, Congress faces a daunting to-do list of must-pass legislation to fund the government and the war. We hear from Senators John Kennedy and Bernie Sanders on both foreign policy and politics.

This week on ‘Face the Nation.’ America is back at war with Iran. Overnight, the U.S targeting Iranian drone and missile sites after Iran's revolutionary guard killed two American servicemembers and injured others, with one servicemember still missing. These are the first deaths of US troops since the fighting resumed two weeks ago. To date, sixteen American troops have died in the conflict. We have the latest with Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chair Mark Warner.
The exchange of fire comes amid a turbulent week at home, with the president facing questions on everything from immigration enforcement to tariff threats against Canada.Yet in a FIERY primetime address last week, he chose to focus on election security—and his 2020 loss- a decision some members of his own party are now questioning.
We examine the president's claims with CBS News election law contributor David Becker and former cybersecurity chief Chris Krebs, who was fired by trump for asserting that the 2020 elections were secure.

Today on Face the Nation, breaking overnight: Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has died from what his office calls a "brief and sudden illness" at the age of 71. We'll have the latest and we'll talk with fellow South Carolina Senator Tim Scott about his impact in Washington and beyond.

 

Plus, new developments overseas as U.S. Central Command has launched a new wave of strikes against Iran after its military force attacked a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz, in defiance of U.S. demands to keep the waterway open. What's next for the security of the region, after President Trump declared that fragile ceasefire deal to be "over"? We'll be joined by former CENTCOM commander Frank McKenzie, Republican Ohio Congressman Mike Turner, and Israel's Ambassador, Dr. Michael Leiter.

 

We'll also talk with Democrat Rahm Emanuel, who's just back from delivering a speech in Tel Aviv about the future of U.S.-Israeli relations.

Despite record breaking temperatures sweeping across much of the nation, Americans came out over the weekend to honor the country's 250th year of independence. Fireworks, parades, flyovers, and red, white and blue were all on display. 

We take a look at one thing that is proving difficult to fix, America’s immigration system. Two members of Congress who immigrated here, Florida Republican Carlos Gimenez and New York Democrat Adriano Espaillat, will tell us their stories and why immigrants were important in shaping America’s past and why they are still important in fortifying America's future.

And, we take look at the pastimes that have dominated American culture. This country is driven by competition, and winning, and few things unite us as much as love of the game.
