Should the government be in the business of business?

For over two weeks, members of the National Guard have been walking the streets of Washington, D.C. -- alongside federal law enforcement and local police.

President Trump has said there is a “crime emergency” in the nation’s capital -- and has openly hinted at taking similar actions in other Democratic-led cities like Chicago, New York and Baltimore.

But while the president has unique authorities over the District of Columbia, federalizing the National Guard in U.S. states will require a higher legal standard.

High stakes diplomacy and canceled Halibut Olympia, insights from the Alaska Summit

That’s according to an official declaration by a United Nations-backed group of experts, who comprise the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification or IPC. They say that famine has officially reached Gaza city and could soon reach other areas of the territory.

Still, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has says there is no famine in Gaza, and that food shortages are the result of Hamas seizing aid shipments.Jean-Martin Bauer is the director of Food Security and Nutrition Analysis for the World Food Program. He explains how the ICP came to this conclusion and what the declaration means for the people facing starvation.

Famine is declared in Gaza. Will anything change?

Here's one sign that shrinkflation is no longer just a topic for economics nerds. 

Cookie Monster recently complained on social media that his favorite food was getting smaller. "Me hate shrinkflation!" the fuzzy blue monster declared. "Guess me going to have to eat double da cookies!" 

President Biden promised to sign a bill banning it during his State of the Union address.

Shrinkflation isn't new. 

It's been happening for years. But people seem to be paying more attention right now amidst high food prices and inflation. And the White House is clearly aware of that. 

After years of rising prices, many Americans are fed up with paying more and getting less. Will the pendulum ever swing back?
