Episode 861 - Get it Inter ya ...

In this episode we look back at the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday. We start by reckoning with the fact we've extended our lead at the top, despite a sense of frustration that permeated after a goalless draw. Then we move onto the match itself, and the key incidents including big chances missed by Gabriel Martinelli and Viktor Gyokeres, with some focus on the striker, what he's not bringing to the team right now, and what that requires of Mikel Arteta. There were second half changes, a slightly contentious penalty incident, but the game played out in disappointing fashion as we struggled to create. In part 2 there are questions about our attacking potency based on some stats, Declan Rice's 'outburst' at the end, how we view draws, Martin Odegaard, reconfiguring midfield from time to time, and loads more.

Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 150: Heroes and Villains

In this episode I'm joined by Phil Costa to look back on Wednesday's 3-2 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Stamford Bridge. We chat about the early goal which silenced some noisy home fans, and a relatively even first half, before Viktor Gyokeres got a much needed goal to make it 2-0. We discuss the goal we conceded before making it 3-1, and the chances we missed to go further ahead before they got another goal back. We analyse some individual performances, like Martin Zubimendi and William Saliba, and look at this is as a positive result which could have been even better, but which leaves us with some work to do in the second leg. Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 148: January mailbag

In this episode we look back at Saturday's 3-2 win over Bournemouth. We discuss the uncharacteristic error from Gabriel which gave the home side the lead, then examine his response and what that says about him as a player and a leader. There's credit for Bournemouth in terms of how difficult they made it in the first half, before Declan Rice's second half brace put us in a commanding position. Eli Junior Kroupi pulled one back thanks to a wibbly-wobbly ball, but Arsenal saw the game out comfortably enough, and we talk about how recent experience of dealing with single goal leads might have played a part for us. Episode 859 - End of year fun

On this week's show I'm joined by Rory Smith of the New York Times to talk about the new edict to referees from on high for them to 'let it flow'. Is this going to lead to a rise in injuries as players push the boundaries, realising they may not get the kind of punishment they did before. We talk about the underlying culture of physicality in English football, how this is not a new thing – something Arsenal fans know only too well – and the way that refereeing and officiating appears to have a make it up as you go along element to it. We also chat about the proposal to make the World Cup biennial.

After that it's some quick Arsenal chat with Andrew Allen as we face a non-European season, and how we have to make that 'advantage' count, particularly for games like the weekend trip to Burnley.
