Episode 889 - A new season ...

In this episode we chat about Sunday's 3-0 win over Man City in the Community Shield. We start with the brilliant early goal we scored through Riccardo Calafiori, and the superb vision of Myles Lewis-Skelly, before some focus on Martin Odegaard and Christos Tzolis as two players who really caught the eye. We also discuss David Raya, promising signs from Arsenal's performance in terms of our attacking play, and the competitive debut for Bruno Guimaraes, before attention turns to players who weren't there and what we might read into the absence of Gabriel Martinelli in particular. In part two we answer questions about Arsenal's transfer business, amid confusion around aspects of the finances. If we could buy Vinicius Junior and pay his wages, why is it being reported we need to sell, and is it coincidence that it's players like Lewis-Skelly, Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri most strongly linked with moves away? Other questions touch on a new defender, season motivations for Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, and lots more besides.

Arsecast Extra Episode 708 - 17.08.2026

In this episode I'm joined by Luke Kempner from 'The thing about Arsenal' podcast to chat about the 1-1 draw with Como on Wednesday evening, and some of the individual performances from young players like Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, including some comments from Cesc Fabregas about their emergence. We also chat about Myles Lewis-Skelly getting on the scoresheet, his celebration, and Mikel Arteta's post-game comments about him after all the speculation regarding his future this week. It's clear something is going on, but it's hard to know exactly what, and we also wonder what it might mean for Ethan Nwaneri ahead of the new season. Episode 888 - So many questions ...

In this episode we chat about the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, after his unveiling at the stadium on Sunday. We chat about what he can bring to the team, and how we might have to let go of the past a bit, before turning our attention to the Emirates Cup defeat to Borussia Dortmund. There's some focus on new signing Christos Tzolis, and pre-season friendly context applied to the defeat, as well as the big question about what we're going to do in the market in the absence of William Saliba and Jurrien Timber – with a big 'DO NO WANT' around one particular player linked. In this episode we start with the arrival of Christos Tzolis and some chat about the deal for the Greek international and what he might bring to the team, before we venture into the obvious territory: Arsenal's widely reported interest in Vinicius Junior. We chat about the player himself, the financial challenges we'd need to overcome in order to make it happen with fees and wages etc, and what actively trying to make a move like this says about Arsenal's transfer market ambitions. These are not the kinds of deals we're typically involved in. We also discuss how it might play out if we can't get it done, and where that might leave us in the market, before James answers a listener question about how the story he wrote with David Ornstein came to pass. Arsecast Extra Episode 705 - 27.07.2026

In this episode I'm joined by James Benge of CBS Sports to talk about Arsenal's 4-2 win over Dundalk in the Europa League. It's six wins from six in Europe, in marked contrast to our Premier League form, and we discuss some of the good individual performances – in particular Folarin Balogun (whose contract situation is discussed) – and the positives from the game in Dublin.

We then wonder how Mikel Arteta fixes things for the weekend. Is playing the kids the answer? Would there be the patience if we lost games with them in the team as well? Can he keep picking the same under-performers week in, week out and expect them to do any better? Could the kids be any worse?

At the heart of it is the need for Arsenal to implement a plan, but how much time can any manager get when they don't win games.
