Brazil President Lula da Silva is joining other middle powers to push back against what they call the return of “spheres of influence and power politics.” He is also running for an unprecedented fourth term and faces a tight race against Flavio Bolsonaro, whose imprisoned father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, still has powerful allies in Trump’s Washington. The unprecedented transatlantic move comes after the United States has targeted its neighbor and old ally, imposing big tariffs and threatening to make it a 51st state. Canada Reaches Out to EU

Remembering 9/11

Britain, France and Canada have announced sweeping sanctions on trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The British Foreign Secretary accused Israeli settlers of "ethnic cleansing" against the Palestinians living there. Israel responded by ordering the closure of the British consulate in Jerusalem. The U.S. has yet to push back against the sanctions. The U.N. says settler violence has reached unprecedented levels and this summer, dozens of prominent figures in Israel signed a letter demanding action to 'eradicate Jewish terrorism' in the West Bank. Among them was former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. He joins the program from Tel Aviv.

Israeli Settlers Accused of 'Ethnic Cleansing'

G7 foreign ministers are meeting against the ever-changing landscape of President Trump’s policies, and there's no better example of his administration's impact than in the host country: Canada. Which is still reeling from the shock of its neighbor starting a full-blown trade war. Meantime, Europe faces a triple whammy: Trump tariffs, plus the shockwaves of suddenly being forced to fend for themselves, plus Ukraine’s fight for survival. On Ukraine, Russian President Putin says he supports 'the proposal to cease hostilities’ but has 'reservations'.
