Mister Tidwell Gunner: A 19th Century Seafaring Saga of War, Self-reliance, and Survival

HE WAS PRESSED INTO NELSON’S FLEET TO TEACH MIDSHIPMEN. THEN THE CANNONS STARTED FIRING.

Mister Tidwell is an Oxford professor, a quiet scholar who has been pressed into Britain’s Navy as a schoolmaster aboard Admiral Nelson’s fleet. His job is to educate young midshipmen—not fight the French.

Battle changes that.

When the Swiftsure comes under fire during the Napoleonic Wars, Tidwell is sent below decks to assist the surgeon amid shattered limbs, blood and cannon smoke. He wants no part of surgery. What interests him is mathematics—and the guns thundering above his head.

Tidwell has spent years studying ordnance and trajectory. Now, with a French man-of-war bearing down on the ship, the academic knowledge no one expected to matter may be the one thing that can keep him and his shipmates alive.

Mister Tidwell, Gunner is historical fiction and action adventure fiction in which a reluctant schoolmaster discovers that mathematics can be as decisive in battle as courage.

Three complete historical adventures in one volume.

Submarine — A sailor’s three-day liberty with the woman he loves is cut short when the crew of submarine SJ-9 is unexpectedly recalled. Even when an accident gives him a chance to stay ashore, he refuses to desert his shipmates—despite an ominous feeling that the submarine will not return.

The Drowned City — Deep-sea divers Henry Rankin and Jim Frazer invest their savings in a search for millions in lost treasure beneath the waters off St. Kitts. But their ruthless former boss follows them to the sunken city with armed men and no intention of sharing what they find.
