En fin historie om børns ondsindethed og om kærlighedens ulige forhold i et ulige klassesamfundet, og basalt set en udforskning af had og kærlighed som langvarige følelser, men imodsætning til andre lignende Chekhov historier, så ender denne lykkelig ved at de elskende trods klassesamfundets forhindringer ender med at få hinanden og være tro mod deres kærlighed og ikke bare udnytte hinanden.
