Z-occupied-Z: Horrors of the russian occupation of Ukraine

Occupation… Those who lived through it will remember those days as probably the most terrifying experience of their lives. Those who were lucky enough to avoid it thank God for that. It is now three full years have passed, yet many people still can’t bring themselves to revisit those haunting memories of life under Russian occupation in the Kyiv region of Ukraine. Others, on the contrary, want to dig up what their minds have buried in the deepest corners of their subconscious — to process what happened, to make sense of it, to learn something from it. You can understand those who choose to stay silent—everyone has their own way of dealing with trauma. But to those who choose to speak up, there’s something to be grateful for, because the experience of occupation makes one thing painfully clear: Ukraine will never go back to what it was on February 23, 2022. Now, more than ever, we must come together and do everything in our power — and beyond — to fight for an independent Ukraine.

Because this war isn’t over. It’s still here. And it still threatens our very existence.
