Waiting for Bluebonnet Time

Nothing is more beautiful than a field of Texas bluebonnets. Each March and April, residents of Southcentral Texas await their blooming with anticipation, and rejoice when they are abundant. When no rain falls and few bluebonnets appear, they are disappointed.

Poet Clyta Coder uses the metaphor of Bluebonnet Time to describe through poetry the ups and downs of life—the laughter and the tears, the joys of loving, the pain of loss, the difficult times of waiting—and the faith in God needed to meet each daily challenge. She writes of the beauty of God’s creation and of the gift of travel and meeting people of different cultures. She writes of her experiences in life with humor and insight and invites the reader to view life through the prism of God’s grace.

About the Author Poet Clyta Coder attended Ouachita University and the University of Tulsa and graduated with a BA in English from California Baptist University. A resident of San Antonio, Texas, Coder is a retired elementary school teacher who enjoys reading, creative writing, and hiking. She is a member of the San Antonio Poet’s Association. She has had poetry published in the Association’s anthologies—Inkwell Echoes and The Dreamcatcher; in the San Antonio Poetry Fair’s Voices Along the River; and in the San Antonio Express-News and the HEB Foundation Newsletter. She has won Honorable Mention in the Margaret Reid Poetry Contest sponsored by Winning Writers.

Coder inherited her lifelong love of poetry from her mother, who read to her five daughters from a slim blue volume entitled A Book of Treasured Poems.
