Vampyrates: The Island of De Spair

Treasure Island meets Dracula in an epic young adult fantasy adventure.

At the dawn of the Second Age of Atlas, a mythic era long forgotten, a bereaved boy named Albion Seraph sets out to bring his deceased mother, Atherielle, back from the afterlife.

In his search for Gravitis, a forbidden realm that harbors the power to resurrect the dead, Albion allies himself with Blackburn, notorious captain of the Pyrates of Blood Bay, only to awaken Delphina, Duchess of De Spair, an ancient vampiress who curses them, turning them into Vampyrates—half vampires, half pirates—the first of their kind to sail the Nine Seas that surround the Island of Atlantis.

To lift the curse, revive Albion's mother, and save Atlantis, the Vampyrates seek the same ancient relics Delphina needs to destroy it and reign supreme over a world consumed by the Neverlight—every thinkable and unthinkable evil unleashed from a terrible void of pain and suffering.

Written and narrated by author Andrew Avner and brought to life by a full ensemble cast, immersive soundscapes, and an original score by Ralf Lichtenberg Narro, Vampyrates: The Island of De Spair is a timeless cinematic listening experience.

“This is the kind of world-building that creates fandoms. ‘Treasure Island’ by way of ‘Dracula,’ and it earns the comparison.”

—Kyle Newman, New York Times Bestselling Author of Dungeons & Dragons: Art & Arcana

“I’ve spent years making pirates look good on screen. ‘Vampyrates’ is so vividly written and realized that I could see every frame.”

—Lukas Ettlin, Director, One Piece and Black Sails

“Ralf Lichtenberg Narro’s score is doing real film work here—this is far beyond audiobook underscore. The voices are so good I couldn’t believe the author was also the narrator. The whole production is beautifully orchestrated, and the mix is fantastic. Somebody needs to ‘Lord of the Rings’ this.”

—Todd Haberman, Composer, the 9-1-1 franchise

“Avner has built a mythology with real architecture underneath it. This is the kind of world that could run for seasons. And he reads it like someone who knows exactly what he wrote.”

—Jeff Rake, Creator of Manifest

“Andrew’s Blackburn is a monster you somehow love. That’s what a great cast does—every performance is fully inhabited, and the whole world comes alive because of it.”

—Jaime King, Actor, Writer, Filmmaker, Sin City and Black Summer

“Ambitious, gorgeously made, and genuinely transporting. This is a full production, not simply a reading.”

—Kate Cohen, Producer, Transcendence

“Epic in the truest sense. The scale of this thing is enormous.”

—Jonathan Liebesman, Director, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Wrath of the Titans

“The character work in ‘Vampyrates: The Island of De Spair’ is extraordinary. Every voice feels distinct enough to draw. The performances give the entire world shape, personality, and life.”

—Kevin Newman, Animator & Character Designer, The Simpsons and Futurama

“‘Vampyrates’ is the rare thing that arrives fully built: a world, a mythology, and a cast you immediately want more of. I’ve been waiting years for people to hear this.”

—Michael Milberg, Film and Animation Producer
