True Stories of Daily Life in Ancient Egypt: How the Deir El Medina Craftsmen Who Painted the Valley of the Kings Lived, Quarreled and Went on Strike

You know the pharaohs and the golden masks, but you have always wondered about the people who did the actual work. Who cut those tombs into the rock, and what did they argue about at home?

This audiobook takes you inside Deir el-Medina, the walled village of the craftsmen who built and painted the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Each chapter follows one documented villager through a real moment. You meet a scribe who kept a book for reading dreams, and a mother who rewrote her will to cut out her ungrateful children. There is a foreman accused of serious crimes, and a crew that downed tools when their rations failed to arrive. Every story is built from surviving letters, court records and ostraca, and the narration tells you clearly where the evidence ends and the historians' best guesses begin.

By the end, ancient Egypt will feel like a street full of neighbors you have actually met. Press play and step through the village gate.
