The Year I Secretly Loved You

Lucy Collins is sixteen when a chance collision in the corridors of St. Edward’s Academy changes the way she understands herself. Isaac Thompson is only a new classmate at first, but a smile beneath the flowering hawthorn tree becomes the beginning of a secret affection Lucy is far too shy to confess.

Through school years filled with stolen glances, diary entries, quiet hopes, and moments that seem enormous only to the person experiencing them, Lucy carries her feelings without ever knowing whether Isaac notices her in the same way. Graduation eventually sends them down separate paths. Lucy attends university in Bristol, falls in love with Henry, builds a career in publishing, and creates the stable adult life she once believed would finally close the door on her first love.

Yet memories have their own way of surviving.

Years later, an unexpected encounter and a St. Edward’s reunion bring Isaac back into Lucy’s world. When a playful confession reveals that her secret feelings may not have been as one sided as she always believed, Lucy is given something she never expected: an answer to the question she carried for years.

The Year I Secretly Loved You is a tender coming of age story about first love, nostalgia, unspoken feelings, growing up, and learning that some loves do not need to become forever in order to remain meaningful.
