The Wars of the Roses: or, Stories of the Struggle of York and Lancaster

The English civil wars of the fifteenth century told for boys: Cade's rebellion, St Albans, Towton in the snow, Warwick's turning, Barnet, Tewkesbury and the princes in the Tower. John Edgar wrote a shelf of histories for the young in the 1850s. He is a Yorkist, states his bias, and gives the campaigns with the topography young readers need. Fifty-seven plates after Turner, Maclise and others carry the fifteenth-century struggle through the visual imagination of later centuries.
