As dawn breaks over the Aegean, a small fishing boat returns to the Piraeus, heavy with silver-glinting mullet. The boy who helps bring in the catch is known throughout the harbour as a trickster and a shouter, but this morning, his mind is fixed on breakfast and the day ahead. From the bustling quayside to the dusty road to Athens, his path is paved with challenges—both from rival city boys and the chaotic energy of the marketplace.

Sent to deliver the best of the catch to a fishmonger in the Agora, he soon finds himself ambushed by truants, forced to defend his basket with a well-aimed stone and a swift fist. Victorious but empty-handed, he presses on into the city, where the leather-dressers’ mallets beat a rhythm to the noise of the streets and the glitter of the Acropolis beckons above.

In the vast, sun-scorched Agora, surrounded by philosophers, merchants, and craftsmen, he navigates a world of friendly insults and unexpected bargains. With nothing but his wits and a talent for mischief, he proves that even a penniless fisher-boy can turn the tables on a cunning olive seller. But as the morning unfolds, the city has more surprises in store—and not all of them will be so easily outwitted.
