The Statement of Randolph Carter

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. Randolph Carter stands before the police, dazed and unable to explain what happened. He remembers a swamp, an ancient cemetery, and his friend Harley Warren, a scholar obsessed with forbidden books written in characters no living man should read.

He remembers that they opened a tomb. He remembers that Warren descended alone into the dark with a field telephone, and that a wire was the only thing still linking them. Then the voice on the other end changed, and what it finally said is the reason Carter can no longer be sure of his own sanity.

Written in 1919 and based on one of Lovecraft's own nightmares, The Statement of Randolph Carter introduces the dreamer who would return in The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and The Silver Key. It is a short, perfectly paced masterpiece of cosmic horror and weird fiction.
