It is also, almost in passing, one of the most honest accounts of a long marriage in recent memoir: not marriage as drama, but as daily practice — Laetitia setting down a second cup of coffee without comment, saying "That'll hold," and going back inside.

There are no epiphanies here, no three-step path to anything. The corporate life is not fled but dismantled, gently, stone by stone. What accumulates in its place — like snow, a single flake at a time — is a way of meeting the world rather than mastering it.
