The Lives and Deaths of the Biblical Fathers

The Lives and Deaths of the Biblical Fathers opens a remarkable window into the earliest centuries of Christian scholarship through the writings of Saint Isidore of Seville, one of the Church's great Doctors and historians. Presented in English for the first time, this newly translated work gathers the lives of the principal figures of Sacred Scripture—from Adam to the Apostles—into a single chronological narrative that illuminates the unfolding story of salvation. Drawing upon Scripture, early Christian tradition, and ancient Jewish sources, Saint Isidore enriches familiar biblical figures with historical context, spiritual insight, and devotional reflection. More than a simple catalog of names, this classic work reveals the continuity of God's providential plan across generations, helping readers better understand how the faith was prepared, proclaimed, and faithfully handed on. Rich in theology, history, and storytelling, it offers an engaging companion for anyone seeking to know the people who shaped salvation history.
