Tirupur is a fabulous city giving an earning of at least rupees ten thousand crores of foreign exchange through the knitting trade. Many writers around here have carved out a number of works that depict the true spirit of this city.
We can easily identify Subra Bharathimanian as first among them. SAVE has produced such works like. “Noyyal Maraintu Pona Nathi.” (Environmental poems on river Noyyal by local poets), “Pinchuk Karangal” (Short fictions on child labour by various writers of Tamil Nadu), “Viyarvai Rojakkal' (Poems on child labour), Unwritten Letters, (a collection of fictions on migrant labour…) These are some of the important works that reveal the plight and pains of those living on edge in Tirupur. We can't simply brush out saying that these works depict realities in plain terms; they are further aesthetic and woven with modern techniques of literary writing.
SAVE gains pride in publishing this work, a small collection of selected poems of Subra Bharathimanian, translated by the known translator, poet R.Balakrishnan with verve and enthusiasm. This work, no doubt is a vertical map of this ruthless city in essence, and this work is rightly dedicated to the migrant workers who are numbered more than three lakhs.
