The Journey of Us

Set on timeless Wiradyuri country and inspired by remarkable true events, Birrang ngiyanhigin.gu (The Journey of Us) connects a sweeping story of love and the unbreakable bonds of family, with a story of resistance and Country.

Stolen from her miyagan as a child, Amy Tompkins has spent years in institutions and domestic service, longing for the family she was forced to forget. A chance meeting in 1923 leads her home to Brungle and to James Williams, who captures her heart. But Amy cannot stay. Separated once more, Amy and James entrust their hopes to letters that breach the distance that separates them. Can their love endure years apart and laws designed to control their futures?

Meanwhile, respected Wiradyuri men Nangar and Ooloogan set out on an extraordinary journey from Brungle to Kamberra for the opening of Parliament House in May 1927. Uninvited but undeterred they traverse unforgiving terrain determined their message will be heard, that Wiradyuri sovereignty was never surrendered.
