They had the rope ready.
The branch of the old cottonwood bent under the weight of frontier justice, and the town of Red Butte had already made up its mind. To them, the man standing with the noose around his neck was nothing more than a horse thief who deserved a short drop and a quick grave.
But someone knew the truth.
Riding hard across the open country came a lone rider with dust on his coat and justice in his hand. He had tracked the real killers across two counties—and he knew the man about to hang was innocent.
Now he had seconds to stop the rope from tightening.
One bullet might scatter the mob.
Or start a war in the middle of Red Butte.
Because in a town hungry for vengeance, the truth can be more dangerous than a lie… and sometimes the only law left rides in fast with a gun.
