The police suspect a tragic barn accident, but Wooly notices the fleeces have been deliberately stacked to collapse and the victim's grading notes contain coded comments about fiber fraud. With her farm under investigation and the fiber community buzzing with suspicion, Wooly must herd together the facts. Assisted by her farming neighbors and the handsome textile scientist analyzing fiber samples, Wooly uncovers a scheme involving fleece substitution, fraudulent micron counts, and a black market for stolen championship wool. From suspicious staple lengths that reveal blended fibers to grease content that doesn't match the breed, every lock of wool tells a story. But when Wooly discovers the victim was systematically downgrading premium fleeces to buy them cheaply and resell them at massive profits, she realizes the killer is protecting small farmers from a woolly web of deception.
