Tales of Soldiers and Civilians

In “Tales of Soldiers and Civilians” (1892) American journalist and short story writer Ambrose Bierce describes unusual incidents and scenes in the lives of soldiers and civilians during the American Civil War. Employing a mastery of the English language that is both economical and florid, the stories in this collection, including "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", “Chickamauga”, and “One of the Missing” constitute one of the most powerful antiwar works in American Literature.
