#1 My family was a large, complex one that often caused confusion in my young mind. We were not exceptional, but we were representative of many other Jews who lived in Berlin during the Weimar era.

#2 My father, Ernst Julius Angress, was a Jew from Berlin. He was a salaried employee of a private bank in Berlin. He had begun working there at the turn of the century and by the end of World War I had become the Prokurist, or owners’ representative. In 1932 he took over the bank.

#3 My family was not exceptional, but representative of many other Jews who lived in Berlin during the Weimar era. I detested Sunday clothes, and I was horribly bored on Sunday walks.
