#1 The Holy Bible, New Living Translation, was first published in 1996. It quickly became one of the most popular Bible translations in the English-speaking world. The NLT is a general-purpose text that is good for study, devotional reading, and reading aloud in worship services.

#2 The key to unlocking the New Testament is a foundational knowledge of the Old Testament. In order to persuade his fellow Jews to believe in Jesus as their long-awaited Messiah and King, Matthew used the Old Testament as proof.

#3 The Gospel of Matthew is the first book of the New Testament. It announces the coming of the Anointed One, Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and Abraham. Under the Spirit’s guidance, Matthew carefully documents Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah and the evidence of his life and ministry.

#4 Jesus was born in Bethlehem during the reign of King Herod. Some wise men from eastern lands came to Jerusalem to worship him.
