#1 I rarely talk to strangers, especially cabbies. I was exhausted after spending twelve hours at my mother’s bedside, and I was trying to leave the hospital. I took my sadness and left a body.

#2 When I returned home from the hospital, my brother and Ric greeted me with awkward man hugs and I love you’s. I returned the hugs and the I love you’s probably just as manly and awkwardly.

#3 I thought about my mother, an artist, and how she would leave food out for the armadillos, hummingbirds that flew into her yard, and frogs that lived in her potted plants.
