#1 I had never had a massage, and the thought of some stranger touching my body was not an appealing one to me. I was mortified. I had to go. It was his mother’s gift to me. I was grateful to receive it, but I was also embarrassed.

#2 I had experienced change, and it had been miraculous. I had quit smoking pot, doing drugs, and drinking alcohol, and I had given up eating sugar. But I had not delivered on my promise to lose weight, and that made me feel like a failure as a woman.

#3 We often fail to change because we are so consumed with our past failures. We have been conditioned to believe that continuing to live in our weaknesses is not our destiny. But it is not too late. It is not too hard. You are not too much. God’s mercies are new every morning.

#4 We need to understand that shame and discipline are not agents of change. They may propel us onto the road of change, but they will only lead us to a never-ending roundabout. We need to rely on God’s grace to bring about the change we desire.
