#1 I was a teenager who was very interested in the world. I lost interest in church, and became very interested in the world. I was labeled a delinquent, and had to appear in juvenile court. I barely lied my way out of the sentence and into six months of probation instead.

#2 I had made a commitment to Christ, but I had lost my friends as a result. I was alone, and I felt betrayed. I turned to God and said, Lord, I gave you my life, and you’ve taken away my friends. What kind of deal is this.

#3 I was anti-Catholic by conviction. I was convinced that Catholics believed they were saved by their works, but the Bible taught justification by faith alone. I was also dating a Catholic at the time, and I shared my anti-Catholic convictions with her.

#4 My parents, Jerry and Patricia Kirk, were very prayerful and fed me the Word of God from a young age. They taught me the faith and had a rich heritage of faith. I loved them, and as a result, I loved the God they loved.
