#1 I loved going to Broadway shows with my father. One usher even greeted us by name when we entered the theater, showing that we were in the presence of someone special.

#2 I had dinner with my uncles at Dinty Moore’s in Times Square, a favorite restaurant of New York legends. I was the only kid there. The waiters treated me like a pasha, and I had no idea how to cut up my food.

#3 Daddy had many uncles, who were all kings in their own right. They were the kings of New York and New Jersey, and they ran the restaurants in those states. They were very different from each other, and they all had deep raspy voices.

#4 My father, as low-key and straight-laced as he was, was in the entertainment business. He didn’t seem very entertaining, but Uncle Willie was. He was Mister Showbiz, incredibly dapper, fast talking, and name dropping.
