#1 A belief is a lever that, once pulled, moves almost everything else in a person’s life. Your beliefs define your vision of the world, your behavior, and your emotional responses to other people.

#2 The problem is that many of our most cherished beliefs about the world are leading us to kill one another. We cannot tolerate the possibility that certain ideas might lead to eternal happiness, because that would be intolerant of other faiths.

#3 We have been slow to recognize the positive effects of religious faith. Many of us still believe that faith is an essential component of human life, and that there are good things that people get from religious faith that cannot be had elsewhere.

#4 Many religious moderates have taken the high road of pluralism, asserting the equal validity of all faiths, but they forget that each faith’s beliefs are inherently irredeemably sectarian.
